At the beginning of this year, you must be refreshed and determined with a wide range of resolutions.
I wish you another productive year. This year, Tokyo Junior Chamber, Inc. has its 57 th president. While respecting the history and tradition, we will function as an active organization meeting the needs of the times. Your continued support will be greatly appreciated.
Representing the Junior Generation
In the fiscal year 2006, Tokyo Junior Chamber will initiate the movements to reform our society with a sense of mission and courage, under the slogan 泥iscuss Japan's Future in Earnest and Act Seriously.
In any ages, those who discuss lively and passionately the world and the future of Japan were the young people of the junior generation. It is said that young people in these days are taking a backseat, which should not be applied for Junior Chamber. In stead, we should be in an initiative position to ignite the hearts of the students and people of our generation. And at the base of our activities should be a sense of responsibility and mission of the junior generation responsible for the coming ages.
Outlook of the Future
Human beings are possessed with an ability to forecast the future and prepare for it. Looking toward the future and formulating goals and plans ? these are abilities required to think about what we should do for the future. With the abilities, we can execute specifically what we should do today, during this month, and within this year. Whenever I hear a young person saying, 鄭ll's well if only it's well now or 的 cannot tell what it'd be like in the future, I feel like an ability of human beings is being lost. At this beginning of a new year, I'd like to ask you, 泥o you use this ability of yours? As our saying tells 鄭ll of the year start from New Year's Day, it is the best time to start making full use of this ability.
And, let's think about the far future of this country: Are you sure to be satisfied with the current situation? Do you believe we can keep enjoying such times? Let's depict an outlook of the future of Japan. By doing that, you may see a number of paths to follow. Then what you need is just your courage and actions to take the paths.
Citizens' Independence and Regional Self-Reliance
Thus, the first things to do are to project an outlook of the future and take actions following its paths. However, what is important is, who should take the actions. Although we, Junior Chamber, will take an initiative by all means, a movement of a single organization is too small-scaled. To make it a large-scale trend in our society, citizens' participation is requisite. The future of our country is bleak if the mainstream of the people's attitudes is hands-off, indifferent, and irresponsible. First let people be concerned about their local communities and recognize their responsibility and duty to participate in the society. As an example, just to rely on police must not be sufficient when thinking of a safety of the community. A recognition that the local community and children should be protected by our own efforts is growing. Tokyo JC would like to build a mechanism to foster such self-reliance and a social system to support it.
It's Our Mission, Not Duty.
There are something important the government and politicians hesitate to tell the people. One of them is about the people's duties. They are pleased to tell they give some rights to the people, but hesitate to tell they impose a duty on the people due to their standpoint. One of the reasons must be a hesitation caused by some criticisms that it represents a nation of resurgent nationalism. It is a trauma of the Japanese, which has not healed even today, after 60 years past the World War II. However, as long as belonging to one nation, the person has duties to act for his or her country and society. And when the tasks are regarded by every person not as a duty but as his or her mission, Japan would become a truly prosperous and dynamic country. We, Tokyo Junior Chamber, will provoke the duties the people should perform from the viewpoint of the people, and will initiate a movement aiming to replace a passive sense of duty with a proactive sense of mission.
