Tokyo Junior Chamber International was established on September 3, 1949 by young volunteers who proclaimed an aspiration, “It is the work of we, the young, to rebuild a new Japan.” We marked its sixtieth anniversary of our founding this year; Tokyo Junior Chamber International, Inc. remains an organization that brings together young people with enthusiasm and a sense of responsibility, with the ideal of realizing a bright and prosperous society.
In comparison with the time when Tokyo Junior Chamber International, Inc. was established, Japan has now become a truly affluent country in material terms. However, in the current environment in which Japan finds itself, we the 25- to 40-year-olds, the generation getting ready to lead, have huge amount of work to be done. We members recognize such responsibilities and, with “service,” “discipline” and “fellowship” as our watchwords, are actively grappling with social issues such as volunteering and administrative reform, aiming to build a better society.
It is Junior Chamber International Tokyo’s fervent desire to work with as many people as possible via these activities.

1. Constructing a social system that reconciles a society woven from the will of the people with the diverse values of the individual
Citizens make up society as its individual members and society is a framework made up of individual citizens, enclosing various forms of affluence. When individual citizens become an active force in society, the diverse values held by individuals and society are reconciled, and the realization of a truly affluent society is coupled with the self-realization of individuals. Various social systems woven from the will of the people along with their true sentiments will propel the metropolis of Tokyo’s change into a new world city with the capability to create values, and will lead Japan to become a country brimming with hope.

2. Make good use of local resources and create the ideal city where people can feel the joy of living
Creating a city requires development that makes good use of various
distinctive qualities, such as culture and traditions transmitted in that community,
geographical conditions and so forth. As locally-based young economic leaders,
we Jaycees must check and act to see that town development is really needed by
the locals and that it makes people feel the joy of life.
If our members always act with an awareness of local colour and issues, we will
bring new ideas to that area and open up a new path to create the ideal city
of Tokyo.

3. Boost the Japanese consciousness that nurtures resolute strength, vigor and richness in spirit
It is essential to nurture a rich spirit innate to the Japanese. The rich spirit comes into being on a foundation of such elements as an ethical outlook, public spirit and moral sense. People furnished with these are capable of exhibiting compassionate and resolute strength. By nurturing of people with this resolute strength and allowing citizens to take the initiative in social involvement, we can develop the new world city of Tokyo, which will then lead Japan towards “a bright and prosperous society” and give pride and hope to our country.
